Inventure Dealflow Analysis 2015

May 12, 2015

Junting Zhao joins the Inventure team, bringing her international background and experience in management consulting. At Inventure, Junting will be working on the dealflow analysis, investor relations, and supporting portfolio companies with the global expansion. Junting’s background is with the Boston Consulting Group, where she was working with some of the largest global technology companies.  Junting holds a M.Sc. in Finance from the Aalto University School of Business.

During my first weeks at Inventure, I have been impressed with the strong global foundation that the team has built. Already, we have been attracting an increasingly high quality dealflow from outside of our home market, with strong representation in the sectors we are betting on. Looking to the future, the goal is to establish the international infrastructure in order to create value for our companies and help them access global markets. Below I would like to share some observations on what we have been working on over the past months.

Software has always been one of our strongest areas, and will continue to do so going forward. In addition, during the past quarters we saw high activity in the advertising & eCommerce, health & wellness, and media & entertainment domains. For example, we have recently welcomed Klevu, an eCommerce search solution, and Glimr, bridging the gap between offline and online commerce, to our portfolio. Today, we have a strong interest in new materials, sensors, next generation financial services, and the security space.

With the help of our venture partners, we have been increasingly expanding our reach to the Nordics and the Baltics. Already today more than 60% of our dealflow comes from outside of Finland. Going forward, we will continue looking for the best startups both inside and outside Finland, actively scouting in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Over the past years, we have been expanding our network to growth markets, with a focus on Asia and the US. While we are very strong in the Nordics, the top 3 hubs in our partner network are now Greater China (Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong), Silicon Valley and London. Going forward, we will put more emphasis on supporting our entrepreneurs in establishing their businesses globally and connecting them with international investors, strategic partners and customers.

At Inventure, I look forward to boosting the growth of our global reach and leveraging the relationships with value-added investors with a joint intent to bring the best European concepts, business models and talent to high-growth markets. I hope to meet many interesting teams throughout the spring! If you are coming to Arctic15 in Helsinki or Pioneers in Vienna – drop me a line at
